Softball Game Preview: St. Bernard Saints vs. Montville Wolves

The St. Bernard Saints will take on the Montville Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither St. Bernard nor Montville posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Tuesday, it was close, but St. Bernard sidestepped Bacon Academy for a 2-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Anabelle Wenzel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, St. Bernard's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lena Byers, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Montville's offense. They fell just short of Griswold by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The Wolves just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

St. Bernard's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Montville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

St. Bernard beat Montville 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
