Softball Recap: Sumrall Extends Winning Streak to Ten

Sumrall had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Raymond Rangers a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Bobcats have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Avery Smith looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kara Applewhite, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Trinity Stokes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Sumrall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Sumrall's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Raymond, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sumrall beat the Rangers by a score of 13-0 later that day.
