Basketball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Breese Central Cougars

The Freeburg Midgets will head out to square off against the Breese Central Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, Freeburg didn't have too much trouble with Althoff Catholic as they won 53-39. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Midgets.

Meanwhile, Breese Central waltzed into their contest on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They took down the Rockets 47-30. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Rockets are ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Breese Central pushed their record up to 26-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points over those games. As for Freeburg, their win bumped their record up to 18-12.

Freeburg took a serious blow against Breese Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 65-21. Can Freeburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
