Islip gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hampton Bays Baymen with a sharp 12-6 win. The Buccaneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Baymen, too.
Lauren Hofmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on one hit and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Ava Mirenda was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Grace Ryan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Islip always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton Bays only posted an OBP of .290.
Hampton Bays' defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Looking ahead, Hampton Bays will welcome Sayville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Islip will be paying especially close attention to the Baymen's matchup: after the Baymen faces off against the Golden Flashes, they'll take on Islip again at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
