Basketball Recap: Wyatt Clemence's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Smithson Valley over Alamo Heights

Smithson Valley lost against Alamo Heights back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Smithson Valley Rangers fell 62-51 to the Alamo Heights Mules. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Mules are ranked 61st).

Smithson Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Clemence, who went 8 of 17 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Ramos, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Smithson Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alamo Heights to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Brewer, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. William Whittingstall was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 17 points.

Smithson Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Alamo Heights, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5.

Smithson Valley will square off against Boerne at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Smithson Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season. As for Alamo Heights, they will take on Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Alamo Heights also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 61.6 points per game.
