Baseball Game Preview: Laughlin Cougars vs. White Pine Bobcats

Laughlin hasn't had much luck against White Pine recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will take on the Bobcats at 1:00 p.m. Laughlin will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Laughlin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Beaver Dam with a sharp 19-9 win on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when White Pine duked it out with Awaken Christian on Friday. The Bobcats never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Maddox Sedlacek made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. White Pine is 5-1 when Sedlacek posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Cessford, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for White Pine: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Maestes, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

White Pine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Laughlin's record now sits at 2-9. As for White Pine, their record is now 9-7.

Laughlin came up short against White Pine in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
