Baseball Game Preview: Amherst Falcons vs. Pacelli Cardinals

The Amherst Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Pacelli Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Amherst fell victim to Wittenberg-Birnamwood and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 11-0. That makes it the first time this season the Falcons have let down their home crowd.

Meanwhile, Pacelli came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Hornets as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Lucas Haemmerle was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Haemmerle was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaden Garski, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Malise Beduhn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Pacelli's record now sits at 7-2. As for Amherst, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Amherst beat Pacelli 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
