Softball Recap: Firth Takes a Loss

Firth had taken Soda Springs down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Cougars fell 7-3 to the Cardinals. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Mckenna Erickson put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Carlee Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Meg Leslie, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Firth's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Soda Springs, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Firth beat the Cardinals by a score of 17-9 later that day.
