Basketball Game Preview: St. Andrew's Lions vs. Savannah Christian Raiders

The St. Andrew's Lions and the Savannah Christian Raiders will compete for holiday cheer at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Tuesday, St. Andrew's ended up a good deal behind Hilton Head Prep and lost 45-30. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 354th in Georgia, while the Dolphins are ranked 161st in South Carolina).

Despite the loss, St. Andrew's had strong showings from Coco Carnahan, who posted nine points and seven boards, and Avery Nein, who earned six points. The dominant performance also gave Nein a new career-high in assists (two).

Meanwhile, Savannah Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Toombs County an easy 44-20 victory. The Raiders were down 39-9 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Savannah Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for St. Andrew's, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for St. Andrew's against Savannah Christian in their previous matchup back in November, as the team secured a 40-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Andrew's since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
