Basketball Recap: Taleah Turner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead George Jenkins over Tampa Catholic

George Jenkins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 40-33 to the Tampa Catholic Crusaders. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Crusaders 11-2 in the first quarter.

George Jenkins lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Taleah Turner, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Turner is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakharia Rutledge, who posted eight points and four steals.

Ashley Knox was her usual excellent self, putting up 21 points and six rebounds for Tampa Catholic. That's the most points Knox has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jayla Grimsley, who put up seven points.

George Jenkins' loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Tampa Catholic, they pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

George Jenkins didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-14 victory against Kathleen on the 3rd. As for Tampa Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-26 win against Wesley Chapel on the 4th.
