Recap: Cesar Chavez Champions vs. Highland Hawks

The Cesar Chavez Champions pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to Highland. While losing is never fun, Cesar Chavez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Highland is ranked second).

Gabriel Briones and Lex Clontz certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Briones scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals, while Clontz scored 17 points. The contest was Clontz's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenuwine Taylor, who scored 5 points.

It was another big night for Michael Johnson, who scored 20 points along with 3 steals for Highland. Another player making a difference was Ty Crandall, who scored 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Cesar Chavez and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Highland, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Cesar Chavez will head out on the road to face off against Fairfax at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Highland, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. Hamilton has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests.
