Softball Game Preview: Argenta-Oreana Bombers vs. Riverton Hawks

Argenta-Oreana is a perfect 4-0 against Riverton since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bombers will take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Argenta-Oreana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Argenta-Oreana gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Arcola 13-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bombers.

Elyssa Armstrong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kharma Giles, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brynn Jones, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Hawks on Tuesday. Riverton came up short against Meridian, falling 16-4. Riverton has struggled against Meridian recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Allayah Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Riverton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Argenta-Oreana, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.

Argenta-Oreana took their victory against Riverton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 18-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bombers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
