Softball Recap: Ray Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Bottineau

Ray faced Bottineau in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Ray Jays fell just short of the Braves/Stars by a score of 1-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Ray Jays were not able to get on the board.

Brinlee Cancade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

Ray's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Bottineau, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Ray is set to face off against their familiar foe Divide County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bottineau will square off against rival Stanley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
