Softball Recap: Clovis Takes a Loss

Clovis extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 17-4 to the Belen Eagles. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 11-10 to the Eagles when the teams met back in March of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Clovis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evelyn Rico, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Rico has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Jazlynn Chavez- Marin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Belen, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 5-7 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Belen's side, Jayda Mirabal was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Mirabal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Honey Mirabal, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clovis will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Portales at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Belen, they will challenge Mayfield at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
