Soccer Game Preview: St. Thomas Catholic vs. St. Pius X

The St. Thomas Catholic Eagles will head out to challenge the St. Pius X Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. Pius X will be up against a hot St. Thomas Catholic team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. St. Thomas Catholic's defense stepped up to hand Concordia Lutheran an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Crusaders are ranked 696th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when St. Pius X took on St. John XXIII on Tuesday. Everything went St. Pius X's way against St. John XXIII as St. Pius X made off with a 7-2 win. With the Panthers ahead 5-1 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

They hit St. John XXIII with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Thomas McGowan (5), Giovani Torchia, and Noah Nulty.

St. Thomas Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-1-1 record this season. As for St. Pius X, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1-3.
