The Flowing Wells Caballeros will face off against the St. David Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Flowing Wells' win against Maricopa wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Flowing Wells narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Maricopa 8-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Caballeros as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Eleana Parsons made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Parsons was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Yesenia Solano was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kristen Felix was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, while St. David put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Baboquivari. Everything went St. David's way against Baboquivari as St. David made off with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like Flowing Wells, St. David also got a great game from a two-way player: Paisley Gooding. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Gooding didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austyn Hatch, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Emelynn Jacquez, who scored four runs while going 1-for-3.
St. David pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Flowing Wells, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
St. David's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Flowing Wells hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for St. David, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Flowing Wells' hitters?
Flowing Wells took their win against St. David in their previous meeting back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 11-4. Will Flowing Wells repeat their success, or does St. David have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
