Football Game Preview: Incarnate Word Academy Angels vs. John Paul II Centurions

The Incarnate Word Academy Angels will head out to face off against the John Paul II Centurions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Incarnate Word Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

Last Friday, Incarnate Word Academy humbled Bruni with a 56-6 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-6.

Incarnate Word Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Damian Salazar, who rushed for 182 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. Salazar's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Eli Becker, who gained 149 total yards and four touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Incarnate Word Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, John Paul II brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They came out on top against Somerset Academy Collegiate by a score of 61-50 on Friday. The Centurions' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

John Paul II's defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Kenny Perez was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.

Incarnate Word Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for John Paul II, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
