Softball Recap: Boyd County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Blazer on Tuesday, Boyd County came back down to earth. The Lions fell just short of the Wheelersburg Pirates by a score of 9-8 on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.

Grace Stephens was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Robbins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Boyd County's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Wheelersburg, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Boyd County will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Blazer at 5:30 p.m. The Tomcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wheelersburg, they will venture away from home to take on Portsmouth West at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Senators have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
