Gaston Christian picks up fourth straight win at home

Recap: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Concord Academy Eagles

The Gaston Christian Eagles entered their tilt with the Concord Academy Eagles with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Gaston Christian walked away with a 70-62 victory over Concord Academy on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gaston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Newman, who scored 23 points along with 8 assists. The contest was Newman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Rhyne, who scored 16 points.

Despite the loss, Concord Academy still got an impressive performance from Jake Benham, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 1 assists. Sean Birmingham was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Gaston Christian pushed their record up to 6-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Concord Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Gaston Christian will head out on the road to face off against Metrolina Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Metrolina Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday. As for Concord Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Gaston Day at 6:00 p.m. Gaston Day is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 71.7 points per game.
