Softball Recap: Cuthbertson Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cuthbertson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Porter Ridge Pirates 12-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cavaliers, who until this contest were averaging 3.42 runs allowed.

Georgia McConnell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexis Juhl, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Gabby Martens was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three runs.

Juhl wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Cuthbertson lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Cuthbertson's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Porter Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Cuthbertson will take on Weddington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Porter Ridge, they will face off against Parkwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
