Softball Recap: Verbena Red Devils vs. Dallas County Hornets
Verbena can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Monday. Everything went their way against the Dallas County Hornets as the Verbena Red Devils made off with a 13-1 win. The victory was just what Verbena needed coming off of a 13-3 loss in their prior contest.
Jaycee Quinn was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Quinn was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Schuffert, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Kiara Ray was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Like Verbena, Dallas County also got a great game from a two-way player: LiDonna Woods. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off five hits. Woods was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with a home run and a stolen base.
Woods wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nakiya Stubbs, who went 1-for-3 with a triple.
Verbena has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Dallas County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.
Verbena will head out on the road to square off against Billingsley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Billingsley is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Dallas County, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Keith at 5:00 p.m.
