No. 17 Warren Central survives on late field goal

Sophomore linebacker Max Hernandez nailed his first career field goal in a huge spot to give Warren Central a victory.

Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) squandered a 19-0 lead then used a Max Hernandez 37-yard field goal as time expired to slip past Carmel (Ind.) 22-20.

A Deionte Buckley 12-yard touchdown run followed by an Antwoine Lloyd 37-yard fumble return for a score gave Warren Central a 12-0 lead after the first quarter.

Midway through the third quarter, Carmel turned it around.



Running back Jalen Duncan broke a 78-yard touchdown run and followed up early in the fourth quarter with a 13-yard score to trim Warren Central's lead to 19-14.

With six minutes remaining in the game, Carmel quarterback Brandon Denning hit Jordan Scheffer for a 14-yard score to give Carmel its first lead of the night, 20-19.

Warren Central was not finished, however. The Warriors got the ball back and with time running out, marched down the field into field goal range. It set up Hernandez's successful 37-yard attempt, which was the first ever for Hernandez who is only a sophomore.
