Softball Game Preview: Raymond Rams vs. Gilford Golden Eagles

The Raymond Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Gilford Golden Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Raymond barely beat Somersworth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams' pitcher stepped up to hand the Toppers an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Toppers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Dinkenesh Levesque made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Cori Cotter was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sophie Huynh was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gilford). They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Mascoma on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gilford's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season. As for Raymond, their record is now 11-5.

Raymond couldn't quite finish off Gilford in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
