Basketball Recap: Kazion Morehead Key Part of Team Effort in Pretzels Win

After losing to Harlem the last time they met, Freeport decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Freeport Pretzels walked away with a 54-45 victory over the Harlem Huskies on Wednesday.

Freeport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kazion Morehead out in front who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Deklyn Rustad, who went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points.

Freeport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Harlem lost, don't look at Matthew Saunders. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-8 to rack up 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Saunders a new career-high in shooting accuracy (88%). Mateo Perera was another key player, putting up ten points.

Freeport has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-18 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points over those games. Harlem dropped their record down to 11-19 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Freeport does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Harlem, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-46 defeat against Guilford on the 20th.
