Basketball Recap: Dayspring Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Dayspring Christian Academy lost against Gilpin County back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Dayspring Christian Academy were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 26-25 to Gilpin County. Dayspring Christian Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Dayspring Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mikayla Perman posted eight points and 12 boards. Thanks to that strong game, Perman now owns an excellent 45.5% shooting accuracy.

Gilpin County was led to victory by Faith Ramsey and Elise Vincent. Ramsey put up nine points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Vincent earned seven points in addition to eight steals and six boards. Vincent is becoming a predictor of Gilpin County's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 14-1 (and 3-4 when she doesn't).

Dayspring Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Gilpin County, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Dayspring Christian Academy will square off against Flatirons Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Flatirons Academy's defense has only allowed 28.2 points per game this season, so Dayspring Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Heritage Christian will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Gilpin County surely won't give up without a fight.
