Softball Game Preview: Willow Canyon Wildcats vs. Centennial Coyotes

For the second straight game, Willow Canyon will face off against Centennial. The Wildcats will head out to square off against the Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Willow Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Willow Canyon beat Centennial 9-5. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Easton Spriggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mataya Olson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bella Mora, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Willow Canyon lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Willow Canyon's record is now 16-8-1. As for Centennial, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 15-9-1.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willow Canyon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .424. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
