Softball Recap: La Crosse Logan Takes a Loss

La Crosse Logan fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Hawks by a score of 11-10. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rangers of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

Sophie Schmitz was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off 13 hits. Those two earned runs gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and one run.

In other batting news, Maria Weber was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Bacon, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

La Crosse Logan has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, they moved to 11-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Crosse Logan will welcome Sparta at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rangers are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, they will be playing at home against Altoona at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Hawks will need to watch out since the Railroaders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
