Softball Game Preview: Liberty County Panthers vs. Islands Sharks

The Liberty County Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Islands Sharks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Liberty County's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

Liberty County's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They didn't even let First Preparatory Christian Academy on the board, marking the Panthers' second-straight 15-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won 16 contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayleigh Barnard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Layla Santiago was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Payne, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Liberty County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .600 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Islands earned a 13-9 victory over Calvary Day on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sharks.

Liberty County's record now sits at 16-11. As for Islands, their record is now 5-9.

Liberty County took their win against Islands when the teams last played on September 11th by a conclusive 14-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
