Baseball Recap: Columbus' Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Columbus lost to Mater Lakes Academy back in March of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Columbus Explorers never let the Mater Lakes Academy Bears get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Explorers.

The result came thanks to Mathew Rios's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Columbus let Rene Ramirez and Jose Correa run wild. Ramirez went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double, while Correa went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Ramirez a new career-high.

Columbus' record now sits at 12-3. As for Mater Lakes Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6-3.

Looking ahead, Columbus will take on Springstead at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springstead is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they will head out to face off against Nova at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
