Football Recap: Maddox Stewart's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Estero over Cypress Lake

Estero made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cypress Lake, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 25-23 on Friday. The Wildcats gained 171 more yards on the day, but it was the Panthers that made the best use of them.

Estero's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddox Stewart, who threw for 262 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown. Townson Green helped out on the ground, rushing for 92 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Even if they lost, Estero's defense still kept up the pressure with 7.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jack Shank and William Leach, who racked up five sacks between them.

Adrian Burdette was a one-man wrecking crew For Cypress Lake. as he picked up 102 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Estero and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Cypress Lake, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Estero will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lemon Bay at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. As for Cypress Lake, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 22-7 defeat against South Fort Myers on the 3rd.
