League recap: Voytik throws longest pass in league this season for Hickory

Fans got a thrill when Matt Voytik and Andrew Pryts connected against Northwestern. The connection went for 89 yards, the longest such play in District 10 Region 3 AA this season.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Hickory beat the Wildcats 52-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.

Hickory's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Voytik threw for 127 and 2 touchdowns and Pryts had 108 yards receiving. On the ground Lou Derloni contributed 134 yards. Michael Steach helped Hickory's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 15 yards.

Pryts was the best receiver in the league this week as William Brest's team topped Northwestern. Pryts tallied 3 receptions for 108 yards. Steach helped Hickory's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 15 yards.

The Hornets' Voytik and Pryts led District 10 Region 3 AA in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Voytik has thrown for 1,677 yards this season, while Pryts has 29 catches for 590 yards. Carnell Hawkins from Sharon leads the league in rushing with 1,617 yards.

In 145 carries Foster Reznor has accumulated 913 yard this year.

Hickory moved up to 48 from 81 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of beating DJ Hough's team 52-14.
