Football Game Preview: Smith County Owls vs. Gordonsville Tigers

The Smith County Owls will venture away from home to face off against the Gordonsville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Things were looking good for Smith County after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 25-21 to Tellico Plains. While the Owls didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bears 7-0 in the first quarter.

Peyton Binkley put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown.

Smith County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Landon Blevins and Gage Gibbs.

Meanwhile, Gordonsville put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Red Boiling Springs. That looming 42-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.

Smith County better keep an eye on Turner Bucher. He was instrumental in Gordonsville's win, rushing for 59 yards and one TD. Brooks Stafford was in the mix as well, providing the Tigers with two scores.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Gordonsville, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Stafford, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Smith County now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Gordonsville, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.

Things could have been worse for Smith County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 20-6 loss to Gordonsville when the teams last played back in August of 2024. Thankfully for the Owls, Bryson Grisham (who rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
