Softball Recap: Guilford's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Guilford's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Freeport Pretzels by a score of 6-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 back in April.

Malia Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks.

At the plate, Leah Hunter was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last ten games. Amiyah Wyrick was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Guilford moved to 8-16 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Freeport, they dropped their record down to 6-19 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guilford will venture away from home to face off against Hononegah at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Freeport, they will head out on the road to take on Belvidere North at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Thunder will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Pretzels surely won't give up without a fight.
