Softball Recap: Salesian College Preparatory Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

While Salesian College Preparatory's win against Saint Mary wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pride had just enough and edged out the Panthers 10-9 on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Pride, who have now won eight matchups in a row.

DeAmor Coleman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Gloria Alcaire and Matea Gaddies did most of the damage at the plate: Alcaire went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Gaddies went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave Gaddies a new career-high. Cristina Martinez-Adalco also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Salesian College Preparatory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Salesian College Preparatory's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Saint Mary's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salesian College Preparatory will challenge St. Patrick-St. Vincent at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.12 runs per game on average), something the Pride will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Saint Mary's, they will square off against Piedmont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
