Basketball Game Preview: East Rockingham Eagles vs. Monticello Mustangs

The East Rockingham Eagles will face off against the Monticello Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Monticello is facing East Rockingham at the wrong time: East Rockingham suffered their first home loss of the season on Thursday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Blue Streaks by a score of 61-59. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Blue Streaks are ranked 321st).

Meanwhile, Monticello got the win against Goochland on Friday by a conclusive 51-27. That 24 point margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

Monticello's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for East Rockingham, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.
