Basketball Recap: Estes Park Comes Up Short

Estes Park was the 56-21 winner over Union Colony Prep when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Estes Park Bobcats were dealt a 68-36 defeat at the hands of the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Estes Park's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abigail Watry, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 17 boards. The dominant performance gave Watry a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Davis, who posted ten points along with seven boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Estes Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Soliana Gebremeskel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Union Colony Prep, going 15-for-27 en route to 38 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Gebremeskel has scored at least a third of Union Colony Prep's points. Jaelynn Valdez was another key player, going 5-for-10 on her way to 13 points along with six assists and five boards.

Estes Park's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Union Colony Prep, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Estes Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-11 loss against Heritage Christian on the 18th. As for Union Colony Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-24 win against Bishop Machebeuf on the 13th.
