Vista Murrieta snaps six-game streak of wins at home

Recap: Vista Murrieta Broncos vs. Murrieta Valley Nighthawks

The Vista Murrieta Broncos fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 87-81 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nighthawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (74), Vista Murrieta still had to take the loss.

Vista Murrieta's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cisco Munoz, who scored 27 points along with seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Munoz has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Clyburn, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Vista Murrieta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Murrieta Valley only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Murrieta Valley had a senior duo take command as Jacob Casillas scored 27 points and Brady Jones scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. Casillas hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Parker Steffen was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.

Vista Murrieta's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-4. As for Murrieta Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Vista Murrieta will head out on the road to challenge Murrieta Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Murrieta Mesa has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Murrieta Valley, they will be playing at home against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chaparral has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 27.
