The Deer Valley Skyhawks will take on the Copper Canyon Aztecs at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Copper Canyon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Deer Valley, who comes in off a win.
Deer Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on ALA - Gilbert North with a sharp 17-1 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Skyhawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Giuliana Hughes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hughes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Camille Hernandez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Samantha Romero was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Deer Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Copper Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 23-8 to Browne. While the Aztecs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 7-3 in the first period.
Alexis Caswell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ailyn Martinez Najera, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Copper Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Deer Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Copper Canyon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Deer Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324.
