Football Preview: Chaparral Bobcats vs. Lake Belton Broncos

Two dominant s in AADEN MCCULLUM and Gavin Owens are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Chaparral Bobcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Lake Belton Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chaparral has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 5.

Chaparral is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Glenn on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bobcats came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 42-20. The Bobcats were down 35-12 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

BRYSON COLEMAN put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 94 yards, and also threw for 79 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Lake Belton entered their matchup against Georgetown on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Broncos fell 50-40 to the Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Eagles are ranked 120th).

Despite the loss, Lake Belton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zyien Dupree rushed for 167 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Dupree has become a key player for the Broncos: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise. Davion Peters was another key player, gaining 132 total yards and two touchdowns.

Lake Belton now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
