Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Falls Despite Big Games from Alexandra Vandiver and Bailey Harris

St. Mary lost against St. Frances Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The St. Mary's Saints took a 46-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Frances Academy Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Panthers are ranked ninth).

St. Mary's loss came despite strong showings from Bailey Harris and Alexandra Vandiver. Harris went 8 for 18 en route to 17 points, while Vandiver almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Vandiver has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played.

St. Frances Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mone'T Edwards, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Edwards a new career-high in assists. Heidi Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

St. Mary's has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for St. Frances Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-4.
