Soccer Game Preview: Santa Clara vs. Grace

The Santa Clara Saints will square off against the Grace Lancers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Clara's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Santa Clara managed to keep up with Coast Union until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Santa Clara came up short against Coast Union, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 956th, while the Broncos are ranked 317th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grace). They never let St. Bonaventure onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Thursday.

Grace hit St. Bonaventure with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Dylan Olsen, Enzo Fernandez, and Jacob Fletes.

Santa Clara's loss dropped their record down to 2-4-1. As for Grace, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7-1.

Santa Clara suffered a grim 6-1 defeat to Grace when the teams last played back in January of 2023. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Santa Clara was down 3-0.
