Baseball Recap: Washburn Starts Season with Win Against Shead

Washburn had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Shead Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory.

Blake King made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Brayden Boulier was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Doak, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Shead is on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Washburn will challenge rival Southern Aroostook at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Shead is set to square off against their familiar foe Machias at 4:00 p.m. on May 7.
