Baseball Recap: Florence Comes Up Short

Florence extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They lost 20-4 to the Colorado Springs Christian Lions. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 17-2 to the Lions when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Florence saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Phillips, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Colorado Springs Christian, they moved to 3-10 with that victory, which also ended their seven-game losing streak. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On Colorado Springs Christian's side, Britton Thompson and Jace Velasquez did most of the damage at the plate: Thompson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Velasquez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs. Those four hits gave Thompson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grant Rasmussen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Colorado Springs Christian beat Florence by a score of 19-5 later that day.
