Baseball Recap: St. John's Falls Short Against Ranked St. Mary's

St. John faced St. Mary in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Pioneers might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 2-1 to the Spartans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Friday.

This is the second loss in a row for St. John's and nudges their season record down to 12-6-1. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for St. Mary's, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.

Coming up, St. John's will take on Xaverian Brothers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for St. Mary's, they will venture away from home to face off against Bishop Fenwick at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
