Montezuma-Cortez proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Rifle Bears 1-0. Montezuma-Cortez's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three contests.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Jordlan Mahler, who's now up to five this season.

Montezuma-Cortez's victory bumped their record up to 5-1-1. As for Rifle, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Montezuma-Cortez will square off against Alamosa at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Alamosa will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Montezuma-Cortez surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rifle, they didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next match, a 5-0 defeat against Aspen on the 15th.
