Basketball Recap: Fort Frye Falls Short of Rootstown in the Playoffs

Fort Frye and Rootstown squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Fort Frye had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Rootstown Rovers by a score of 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cadets have suffered since March 6, 2024.

Rootstown was led to victory by Colbie Curall and Nadia Lough. Curall made all 7 shots she took for 16 points along with six assists and six steals, while Lough shot 80% from the field en route to 20 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lough has scored at least a third of Rootstown's points. Kelsey Bittecuffer was another key player, putting up seven points.

With the defeat, Fort Frye broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-5. As for Rootstown, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 27-1.

Fort Frye does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rootstown, they will challenge Columbus Grove at 2:00 p.m. on March 15th. Columbus Grove will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something Rootstown surely won't give up without a fight.
