Volleyball Recap: Madison Comprehensive Rams vs. Shelby Whippets
After flying high against Mansfield Senior on Tuesday, Madison Comprehensive came back down to earth. The Rams took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shelby Whippets on Thursday. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Whippets recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
The final score came out to 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 25-14.
Paityn Butler paced Madison Comprehensive's offense, picking up 14 kills. Butler got some help from Maddie Berry and her 30 assists. Grace Speelman controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Shelby's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shelby Vaughn, who had eight digs and three aces. That's the most aces Vaughn has posted since back in September. Madison Henkel also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Madison Comprehensive's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Shelby, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-10.
Madison Comprehensive and Shelby could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Rams will square off against Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (532 vs. 161). Meanwhile, Shelby (ranked 397th) will meet Willard (ranked 85th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
