Baseball Recap: Brookeland Starts off Right with Win over West Sabine

Brookeland had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the West Sabine Tigers on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Cade Morgan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Morgan was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sammy Lundquist, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Landon Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

West Sabine now has a losing record of 6-7.

Brookeland has already played their next game, a 6-3 win against Chester on the 21st. As for West Sabine, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 11-3 victory against Corrigan-Camden on the 25th.
