Softball Game Preview: Newark Norsemen vs. Batavia Bulldogs

Newark has gone a perfect 3-0 against Batavia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Norsemen will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Newark is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Newark came up short against Herscher and fell 14-9.

Adelaide Johnson and LeAnn Monsess did some serious damage despite the final result: Johnson went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run, while Monsess went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and two runs. Monsess is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sadie Pottinger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Batavia lost 17-6 to Lake Park on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Batavia's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Newark, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8-2.

Newark skirted past Batavia 2-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Norsemen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
