Softball Recap: Northwest Mustangs vs. Sweet Springs Greyhounds
Northwest fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sweet Springs on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 5-4. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Greyhounds earlier this season, when they won 8-5.

Gabby Meyer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Meyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sofi Amaya, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Lauren Butler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Sweet Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
While Northwest had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
